22nd March Update

Don't forget to get in touch

We've heard from over 75% of our players over the last few days, with many supportive messages for our coaches and venues, a huge thank you to you all during this difficult time.

CLARIFICATION OF PAYMENTS MOVING FORWARD
As explained in our previous emails, all players now have a choice. We appreciate any support provided but also understand that many of you are in the same situation as our coaches with a sudden stop to your income. All payments will be adjusted where instructed for your next and subsequent scheduled payments from the 1st April.

If you haven't already responded;

PLEASE USE THE LINKS BELOW THIS EMAIL BEFORE 8PM TODAY TO LET US KNOW WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO DO MOVING FORWARDS

If we don't hear from you we will amend you to the 50% option.

Our coaches will receive all of the money you pay We Do Tennis. Your decision today does not have to be for ever - please contact us at any point to change your option and we will adjust the next monthly payment. PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL YOUR DIRECT DEBIT – this results in more problems for you when trying to re-start at a later date. It also duplicates you on our system and gives us issues in deleting your previous attendance record. We can re-start things much easier when this passes, if we amend your direct debit from our end.

Thank you all so much for your support. We know we've been in touch a lot this week, trying to keep you informed. We'll spend some time working on our plans for the next few weeks and be in touch later in the week.

Update 21st March

We Do Tennis - but not for a little while :-(

The time has sadly come for We Do Tennis to STOP ALL COACHING with immediate effect. The latest press conference led by Boris Johnson today ordered all pubs, restaurants and leisure centres to shut. We are seeing the reaction from the tennis world and most Clubs have now made the decision to stop coaching activity.

We are all aware of the issue currently being faced and want to send everyone healthy and positive thoughts. Thank you so much for the overwhelming support you have shown our team. We have had 62% of you so far offering to keep paying your normal coaching fees at full rate. We were not expecting that and thank you from all of the WDT team. This generosity will help ensure our coaches survive this difficult time, and we will move all of our efforts now into what we can do to come back better than before as a team.

CLARIFICATION OF PAYMENTS MOVING FORWARD
As explained in yesterday’s email, all players now have a choice. We appreciate any support provided but also understand that many of you are in the same situation as ourselves with a sudden stop to your income. All payments will be adjusted where instructed for your next and subsequent scheduled payments from the 1st April.

PLEASE USE THE LINKS BELOW THIS EMAIL TO LET US KNOW WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO DO MOVING FORWARDS:-

  1. You are happy to keep your full payment running during the coronavirus period
  2. You are happy for us to reduce your payment to 50%
  3. You would like us to STOP your payment from 1st April

WHAT WE ARE DOING NOW
Face to face coaching has stopped as of this evening - we really hope that this is not for long, and we will continue to follow the government and LTA advice.

We are working on other projects which includes creating an online community to support our players and help to keep everyone active. Follow us on social media and keep an eye on your e mail inbox for further updates.  We will continue to communicate with you and look at ways to involve you all in what we are doing.

Thank you all so much for your support.

Stay healthy everyone, and enjoy your new roles as teachers from Monday!

Update 19th March

Thanks for your support

Thank you for your overwhelming support so far. Our coaches are facing a difficult period – both financially and emotionally, as they are preparing for the future where they will not be able to do what they love for a period of time.

This is a fast moving situation and has clearly escalated with the decision to close schools from Friday afternoon. The advice remains the same regarding recreational tennis and general exercise. We will continue for as long as we can and as long as we have your support.

WE WILL NOW CHANGE THE PAYMENT MODEL
We recognise that some players are not attending (either self-isolating or choosing not to attend for safety reasons). We feel the right thing to do now is adjust your monthly payments to a situation that you are all comfortable with.

We understand everybody will have different opinions on this, and we really appreciate the number of people that have already contacted us saying they are happy to support our coaches and keep their payment running. Like many of you, their income and livelihood has been taken away and any support you can provide will be greatly appreciated by us, the coaches and their families.

PLEASE REPLY BY SUNDAY AT 8PM. WE WILL CHANGE DIRECT DEBITS FOR ANYBODY THAT WE DON’T RECEIVE A RESPONSE FOR TO THE 50% OPTION.

PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL ANY DIRECT DEBIT PAYMENTS YOURSELF - THIS WILL MAKE THINGS A LOT MORE DIFFICULT TO RE-START WHEN WE ARE BACK IN FULL FLOW AGAIN SOON.

Thank you for your time and understanding. We will continue to teach following our improved hygiene and operating standards as previously communicated. This will continue on for as long as you continue to support us and our coaching team stay healthy.

We Do Tennis are determined to spend time over the coming period reviewing what we currently do, looking at ways to improve, and we will come back stronger than ever.

Tennis and sport is so important to us all, but we do not for a second think it is the most important thing during this difficult time. Stay healthy everyone, look after loved ones and stay positive.

Latest Update - 18th March

Clarification on the LTA e-mail

Some of you may have received an e-mail direct from the LTA, which stated they were ceasing all of their activities.

Unfortunately for us, and a number of other tennis coaches, their communication was misleading. They have stopped all of their activity that they run directly (coach education, competitions etc....)

If you clicked on their e-mail, there was a box for more information, where their stance on recreational tennis was included, in which they said that, at the moment, there is no reason to cease so long as sensible precautions are taken (see our precautions below).

To clarify, WE ARE CONTINUING WITH ALL OF OUR SCHEDULED ACTIVITIES UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. It has been great to see how many of our players are attending, and enjoying the tennis this week.

As you are all aware things are changing all of the time, we will continue to keep you updated with any changes after our discussions with the LTA.

  • Coaches to wash hands before and after coaching
  • We ask parents to send children with their hands washed ,and having used the toilet before attending lessons
  • We will minimise the use of clubhouses and other common areas – we have not banned this but have asked for people to support not using these areas
  • We will initiate a racket loan policy so any player needing a racket will be issued with their own (new grip or disinfected grip) racket to use during this period. This will stop the sharing of rackets.
  • We will ensure that players do not come in to close contact on court or share equipment
  • On court practices such as shaking hands, high 5 or the human net exercise, will not be used
  • MOST IMPORTANTLY – Any player, parent or coach, that has a new or continuous cough or fever, or has a household member showing these symptoms must not attend the venue

As always, please come back to us with any questions / comments.

Update - 17th March

Tennis lessons are scheduled to go ahead this week

Thanks for all of the support we have received in the past few days.

We all know that the current Coronavirus is an unprecedented event in modern times and has caused a lot of uncertainty and worry for us all. We are continuing to focus on the best advice being provided and following what the tennis community is doing as a collective and guidance from our Governing Body (The LTA).

Lots of sports are shutting down – I think we must remember that a lot of these sports generally have larger numbers in more enclosed spaces, and in some cases require contact. A lot of sports rely heavily on volunteer coaches. Our tennis courses are generally outside and only have much smaller number of participants. We are planning to continue for as long as possible as we believe it is important for players to stay healthy and get both exercise and some mental stimulation. We have already identified the steps that we have taken to ensure our coaches are providing the best / safe environment and we will again list our procedures again further down below this email to ensure you can all make the best decision about your participation.

PARENT & PLAYER FEEDBACK HAS BEEN SUPPORTIVE – We have had a number of emails supporting our procedures and plans to stay playing for as long as possible. Some parents have said they do not want to take any risks and have decided to self-isolate due to their individual circumstances. That shows what a difficult decision and time it is for us all at the moment.

We 100% understand and emphasise with any parent that does not feel comfortable attending and fully support your decision. Both Matt & myself have young daughters and we are having to make the same decisions for our activities away from tennis. Please do not hesitate to stop or limit attendance. We need everybody to be 100% committed to staying away if they start to develop any symptoms or feel unwell.

WE WILL CONTINUE TO PROVIDE OUR SERVICE FOR AS LONG AS WE CAN – We do not know how things will develop and changes are happening at pace. We are committed to developing our sport, encouraging people to lead active and healthy lives. We will keep the We Do Tennis show on the road for as long as we can. Our coaches work in an industry which is predominantly self-employed. If coaching stops, our coaches will not earn any money. We created We Do Tennis to grow our sport and grow a tennis coaching workforce and do everything we can to help tennis coaches keep going.

THINKING FORWARD – IF WE HAVE TO CEASE ALL COACHING ACTIVITY
We need to be positive. We will aim to create an online community where we can still share our ideas, tips for tennis and general health advice. We see this as an opportunity to create an online ‘We Do Tennis Community’ and like the idea of creating a ‘We Do Tennis Daily Challenge’. Maybe this will simply be – who can walk up the most stairs today? We can then share results and challenge our players to be the best, and be the most active. If we are all forced to stay at home then maybe this is the community we need. I see a situation where we share the winners each day and comment on which tennis clubs they belong to. I hope we can help everybody at this difficult time.

If we reach this stage where no group coaching is possible at clubs our proposal is to keep your monthly payments in place. But we will reduce everybody to a HALF-PAYMENT during the Coronavirus break. This will ensure we can support our coaches and maintain a monthly payment to these self-employed amazing people that work with We Do Tennis delivering the lessons and ensure when coaching can resume we have the workforce available to deliver. PLEASE DO NOT cancel your DD yourself as it causes all sorts of issues further down the line. Please contact us and we will help manage the situation

Coronavirus Update - 16th March 2020

Players, Parents and Guardians,

 Players, Parents and Guardians,

Following on from our e-mail of last week and this evenings update from the Prime Minister, all lessons are currently scheduled to go ahead this week as planned.

We continue to monitor the situation regarding coronavirus closely. The LTA is in regular dialogue with the Government, and We Do Tennis are adhering to the LTA, Tennis Wales, Public Health England and Public Health Wales guidance.  The latest advice from the LTA is that there is presently no reason people should stop doing their daily sport and physical activities as they normally would, and so tennis activities can continue as normal. This is updated daily, and if anything changes we will let you know.

We have spoken with all of the coaches today and have agreed on the following precautions will be in operation moving forwards:-

We believe that at the moment there are no reasons why sessions should not continue with the above procedures in place.

As always, if you have any concerns, please get in touch.

Please see below for further information on both our Monthly Payers, or 6 Week Course Players

PAY MONTHLY PLAYERS

  • If we need to pause the sessions we will try and give you as much notice as possible
  • We will manage your DD payment, please do not contact this yourself, and communicate our plan of action around any missed sessions

SIX WEEK COURSE PLAYERS

  • If we need to pause the sessions we will try and give you as much notice as possible
  • We will ensure that no players lose out on money already paid
  • If your start date is in the future, and we can't start on the scheduled date, we will reschedule for a later date
  • If you are in the middle of a six week course, and have to stop, we will continue the course as soon as we are able
